Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is CCS connected to a particular church?
A:
No, CCS is a parent-run school directed by a Board of Trustees.
The school was founded in 1952 by laymen from several area
churches. Those churches continue to provide spiritual oversight and
accountability to the school through the appointment of pastors, elders
and laymen to the school’s Spiritual Advisory Committee.
Q: Is financial aid available?
A: Yes. Tuition assistance is awarded to families who qualify.
All assistance is need-based. No
academic or athletic scholarships are given.
Families that enroll more than one child also pay reduced tuition
for each additional child.
Q: What curriculum do you use?
A: All disciplines (subjects) are guided by a K-12 curriculum written by
members of the CCS Curriculum Committee. In designing any curriculum for
any subject, the committee is alert to current educational trends, the
curriculum patterns in surrounding public schools, and the state
standards. Once the curriculum is
in place, the school then goes in search of the best textbooks and
materials to support that curriculum.
Some of those materials come from Christian publishers; some of
them do not. Regardless of the publishing company we have confidence
that the materials are the best available to support the curriculum we
have designed.
Q: What athletics are available?
A: Interscholastic competition is available to boys and girls in middle
school and high school. In the fall, boys play soccer or golf and girls play
volleyball; in the winter they all play basketball.
In the spring, boys and girls compete in track and field; the
girls also play soccer.
Q: Is there busing?
A: CCS receives busing services from eight (8) surrounding school
districts: Coatesville, Daniel Boone, Downingtown, Eastern Lancaster
County, Governor Mifflin, Owen J. Roberts, Pequea Valley, and Twin
Valley. Our transportation liaison works with enrolled families to be
certain they are on the bus route.
While CCS currently owns a school bus, we do not provide regular
bus transportation to and from school.
Q: Do you have uniforms?
A:
No. Student apparel is guided by an “appearance code” that emphasizes
modesty and neatness. The
appearance code is seen as an opportunity to help students make
decisions that are God-honoring and respectful of themselves and others.
The full appearance code is available in the Parent Student Handbook.
Q: Is chapel required?
A: Yes.
Chapel is held several times a month in elementary school. Middle school
and high school students attend chapel once a week. Chapel
programs may include guest speakers, lessons by other groups or classes,
or presentations from outside organizations. A student worship team is
typically part of a chapel experience. Effort is made to present chapel
programs that are engaging, age-appropriate and designed to present the
truth of scripture.
Q: What is your kindergarten schedule?
A:
Currently CCS families have a choice of three kindergarten schedules:
full day, half day and “flex day”.
Half day kindergarteners are dismissed at 11:30. The flex day
schedule has students in class 2 full days and 3 half days each week.
All schedules meet 5 days each week
Q: Do you provide services for students with
learning needs?
A: Yes. A Student Support Team works with students, parents and teachers
to design a program that best invests in a student’s success.
A program of parallel instruction may be designed for students
requiring individual attention for success in school.
Educational therapy is available on campus to students
with identified learning disabilities. Remedial services in math and
reading are available through the Intermediate Unit.
Parallel instruction and educational therapy are offered as space
allows. There is an additional charge beyond regular tuition for
these programs.
Q: Do you offer advanced level courses?
A:
In
the high school, honors courses are available in 11th and 12th
grade English and Social Studies.
College Board Advanced Placement (“AP”) courses are also available in
Biology and Calculus. In addition to courses offered on
campus, our online course options provide
opportunity for a wide variety of advanced and dual-credit courses.
